So you’ve knit around the world and back in scarves, shawls, mittens, and cozies, but never made yourself a sweater? Maybe you’re a newer knitter who is ready to take the plunge after a few smaller projects? Or what about you knitters who only make things for other people and never for yourself? Come one, come all to Mary Elizabeth Scott’s (maryscotthuff.com) newest knitting adventure/party: A Fearless Sweater!

In this four-session class, you’ll knit the "Rhubarb" sweater, a design Mary created especially for first-time sweater-makers. "Rhubarb" works up quickly in worsted-weight yarn, from the bottom up, with minimal finishing. With Mary’s help, each student will create a personal knitting recipe that will lend confidence to future sweater adventures. Students can create their own adventure with the center panel: a cable, lace pattern, or knit/purl pattern.

Some skills covered include: Determining and working with your own gauge; substituting a cable pattern; seamless top-down sleeves; Japanese short rows; measuring your body for drop-shoulder designs; understanding garment ease; adding buttons and button loops.

Level: Intermediate. You must be able to cast on, cast off, knit, purl, increase, decrease.

Materials: Worsted-weight yarn in the following amounts: X-small 1,000 yards. Small: 1,200 yards. Medium: 1,400 yards. Large: 1,600 yards. X-Large: 1,800 yards. NOTE: it's a good idea to get more yarn than you think you'll need, for making your gauge swatch and in case you want to make a longer sweater. We have many lovely worsted-weight yarns in the shop; call us for a FaceTime tour if you can't stop in. Also: 16" and 24" circular needles US size 7; tapestry needle; stitch markers; and five  ¾” buttons.
