The Pi Shawl is an ingenious idea advanced by knitting genius Elizabeth Zimmerman to explore the mathematical relationship of a circle's radius and its circumference. Once you understand the basic concept, well, the rest is Pi in the sky and there are no limits to your shawl-knitting possibilities. And who better to explain this idea to us than Bristol Ivy, a self-described math nerd who describes it this way, "Pi Shawls are one of the coolest ways that knitting and math collide. Students will explore a simple formula that works across all yarns and gauges." Bristol will also explain how to alter the formula to make a Pi half-circular shawl and other interesting variations.
Suggested yarn for this class: 1 skein Kauni Effect, a wonderful fingering/sport weight yarn with long color changes, available in the shop. Yardage for other weights of yarn will vary, depending on how large you'd like your shawl.
I will call you to order a skein of the recommended yarn. I am assuming that the time for the class is PST and that it will be 1:00 to 3:00 on the east coast.
